Campylobacter ureolyticus – an emerging gastrointestinal pathogen?

EntericBio was used in a study performed by Bullman et al. in which

7,149 faecal samples were tested. Of 349 campylobacter-positive samples, 23.8% were shown to be Campylobacter ureolyticus, using a combination of 16S rRNA analysis and highly specific primers targeting the HSP60 gene of this organism. This is, to the best of their knowledge, the first report of C. ureolyticus in the faeces of patients presenting with gastroenteritis and may suggest a role for this organism as an emerging enteric pathogen.

EntericBio Faceal Pathogen Detection Kit was installed in

Inkosi Albert Luthuli Central Hospital, South Africa.

Dermot Scanlon, pictured opposite at IALCH, said that the test was very well received by the laboratory staff. The kit will improve both the quality of the diagnostic result and the efficiency of the laboratory.

The EntericBio product and process was audited during a recent CPA audit of Cork University Microbiology Department.
EntericBio passed the audit without any issues being raised by CPA.

CPA provides a means to accredit Clinical Pathology Services and External Quality Assessment Schemes (EQA).
It involves an external audit of the ability to provide a service of high quality by declaring a defined standard of practice, which is confirmed by peer review.
